I was backed into a corner a few years ago where I had to put a dry pipe
feed main underground. We used galvanized sch 40 in polyethylene wrap.
The civil engineer had to specify a manhole dug halfway to China for a
drum drip. Luckily, the storm invert elevation in the area was more
than halfway to China so it was feasible to put a floor drain in the
bottom of the manhole.

I hated doing it, but the Architect refused to put a dry pipe valve
house at curbside. This was at an airport, and somehow the valet
parking shack, the guard shack, the shuttle bus shack, etc. were all
architecturally OK. Go figure.

Craig,

How do you handle elbows or tees? I would think that in order to make
that work, the outer pipe diameter would have to be significantly
larger than the inner pipe, at best. Plus, you would have to cut the
pipe lengths so that radii of curvature would have the same center
point. It could get ugly. (or am I over-engineering again?)
