It caused leaking "ESC" between brass and plastic on head adapters. Same adapters used for both sidewall and pendants,

If the dope was not compatible with CPVC and caused leaks then the leaks would have come from the CPVC. Did it crack the fittings or cause separation between the brass and plastic on the head adaptor? After a few months sidewall heads started leaking and we found that the Teflon dope was not compatible with CPVC. They used a permabond product that was Teflon but not compatible dope. More and more contractors who do both steel and CPVC are buying all products that are CPVC compatible for all jobs to avoid possible contamination and stress cracking. They can seal a head as well as a thread. I don't use any of the traditional dopes anymore, haven't for years. I was hooked on permabond but at $50 a 2/3 filled quart (some metric equivalent), it was ex$pensive. I love superdope, better consistency and doesn't dry out on the brush as fast. There are some medium and high density tapes out there and colored that work pretty well, less wraps and a more durable seal but I haven't tried them on heads yet. I will say on dissimilar metals, especially steel into brass or bronze; dope over tape every time. Always have and always will. It's a little cleaner on an exposed piece, like a FDV to dope and tape over the dope. Other than that, we just use a dab of anaerobic dope while the pipes turning and make on the fitting. Tom Duross Go Red Sox On plastic jobs, I instruct my fitters to just use teflon tape on the sprinkler heads. On steel pipe jobs, we tape and dope everything. I worked on power plants for years, and we used anerobic pipe dope without teflon tape quite successfully.
