My experience has been that most people DO use them in coolers - just to be safe.
I have flip-flopped in the past. Seems to make sense to avoid their use wherever possible, given their replacement/testing schedule. But there's always that fear that a cooler malfunctions - or the architect labeled the rooms wrong.... Mark A. Sornsin, PE Fire Protection Engineer Ulteig Engineers, Inc. I know the code cut off point is 40 degrees and of course you would use them in freezers but do most people put them in coolers just to be safe?
