Greg, >From NEC (2005) Article 695 Fire Pumps
695.1(B) Not Covered. This Article does not cover the following: (2) Pressure maintenance (jockey or makeup) pumps. However, Article 696 does provide the following with regards to when "other loads" are connected (although not required to be) to the fire pump feed. 695.5 Transformers 695.5(C) Feeder Source Where a feeder source is provided in accordance with 695.3(B)(2), transformers supply fire pump system shall be permitted to supply other loads. All loads shall be calculated in accordance with Article 220, inlcuding demand factors as applicable. Conductor sizing is also addressed at 695.6(C)(1) The section of NFPA-20 you cited only refers to the fire pump controller. Hope that helps John Drucker Fire Protection Subcode Official (AHJ) Licensed Electrical Contractor New Jersey -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Greg McGahan Sent: Friday, June 15, 2007 10:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: jockey pump power An electrician informed me this morning that the NEC requires him to size his electrical feed for the fire pump and the jockey pump. NFPA #20 states the following: 10.3.4.8 Electrical supply conductors for pressure maintenance (jockey or make-up) pump(s) shall not be connected to the fire pump controller. We are not electricians nor did we stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night; but he wants to know where he is supposed to get his power from for the Jockey Pump. Can he come off the feed from the transformer prior to entering the Fire Pump Control Panel?
