Subject: RE: Backflow: DCDA vs RPZ - part 2

Todd,

We ran into that on a job in the State of Maryland. The AHJ mentioned
that some of the more rural company filled their tankers and the like
from ponds.
In this jurisdiction ALL BFPs were RPZs because that's the SOP. I
believe he cited (correctly as I recall) the International Plumbing
Code.

Any firemen out there putting backflow preventers on the hydrants prior
to pumping out of them? Or perhaps setting up containment tents around
the hydrant prior to popping the cap off?

Has anyone run into a determination that and RPZ is required on all
systems with an FDC because there is no guarantee that the water being
pumped in is potable (based on an interpretation of the IPC)?
