there are some manufacturers (norweigian and finnish in particular)
that have full-scale fire test data on mist systems...
tunnel fire with loaded gasoline tanker
helicopter hangar to 15 m high with pop-up heads from floor trenches
using a water-only system (i know the military are VERY
slow to endorse new technology, but the norweigians
claim they lost a plane and almost a pilot because the
Hi-Ex foam did not fill the space quick enough). after testing
the mist heads from the floor trench pop-up delivery,
they say they have something that works better than foam AND
one doesn´t have to spend 9,000 man-hours dissassembling
your aircraft after the false foam trip.
standard, vanilla commercial applications
ship applications
and the Norweigians claim some application need only 60
psig end head pressure. That makes single story applications
within reach without a pump, for some jurisdictions. One could
use 175 psig rated fittings, and no stainless pipe would be necessary.
I have very little experience with these water mist systems,
but am interested in what I am hearing and seeing.
