Ever since a local FPE went on TV and questioned whether retrofitting residential high-rise buildings was the right "application" for sprinkler technology, I've have kept (and a few of my mates as well) an especially vigilant eye out for examples of sprinkler performance that we can forward to our fire chief for ammo in the upcoming ordinance fight that we are hoping for this year in San Diego. And look what dropped into my lap, right here in downtown SD - a seniors apartment complex saved by a sprinkler system that held a fire to the mattress on which it started. Hmmm ... buildings filled with older people who may have partial-ambulatory and non-ambulatory issues, especially high-rises. I wonder what the correct application of sprinkler technology would be?
