Ladies and Gents:

Just a few observations/comments, if I may...I sat in on a "Pex" class last
week offered by Uponor (formerly Wirsbo) for local plumbers and (Fire) AHJ's
and came away with this info:

1) No more "4-port" fittings, per se, instead the systems will be 'looped'
and still be circulating - my understanding is that there will not be a
requirement to install BFP's, unless local water department requires...

2) No non-looped layouts ("trees") as this impacts the lower pressure-rating
of the pex piping (UL listing).

3) It was my clear understanding that the "design" of Uponor 13'D' systems
is, or can be, designed by their (Uponor) NICET Level 4 fire sprinkler system
designers - they apparently have several on staff and ready to go.

4) They have a training program in place for "installers" be they
sprinklerfitters/plumbers/pipefitters, et al.

The class was 1.5 hours long, very informative and professional - as a 30+
year fire sprinkler industry "veteran" (?), the Uponor people appear to be very
much on top of it and are positioning themselves for the upcoming residential
sprinkler market 'flood' - uh, poor choice of words. Weren't we already saying
20+ years ago if the sprinkler industry does not take 'control' of the
residential market, the plumbers will??
