2006 IBC 1020.1.2 Penetrations provides; "Penetrations into and openings through and exit enclosure are prohibited except for required exit doors................, sprinkler piping, standpipes................ 2006 IBC 905.3 Required Installations also provides; "Standpipe Systems are allowed to be combined with automatic sprinkler systems". Keep in mind that the aforementioned must be located such not to impede or diminish the required egress width of the stairway/stairway landings pursuant to 2006 IBC 1009.1 and 1009.4.
