We have been allowed to use slotted strut with strut nuts, strut washers and
channel washers. These systems were designed to be used together, and we've
had no problem getting them accepted. If you were to use Std. washers, there
might be some questions, but only if it was a support point. If your just
passing thru a slot, and then the support is provided by a channel nut,
captive in the channel, I wouldn't see a problem, since they "Grip" the
channel and can't move. The hole in the nut is the support hole, not the
slot in the channel.

Subject: RE: All thread rod vs. bolts

This question came from a fellow employee, and he did mean through steel -
the wrong section was quoted. But his question : is there a difference in
between all thread rod and bolts and is this 1/16" ruling meant for all
thread rod also. (Can trapeze hangers be slotted for all thread rod)?

That section is for Minimum Bolt Size for Concrete (9.1.3.10)

Trapeze hanger criteria is addressed in section 9.1.1.6. In your question,
we find the answer in 9.1.1.6.7, "Holes for bolts shall not exceed 1/16 in
greater than the diameter of the bolt."

Questionable issue: NFPA 13, 2002 Edition: 9.1.3.10.2 Holes for bolts shall
not exceed 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) greater than the diameter of the bolt. So here
is the question - is there a difference in between all thread rod and bolts
and is this 1/16" ruling meant for all thread rod also. (Can trapeze hangers
be slotted for all thread rod)?
