I think the point was that small storage closets with 1 or 2 sprinklers rarely get a separate calc. In this situation, it sounds like it could be a larger space if they are storing furniture, tables, etc and it could require a calc. In that case, refer to the misc storage section of 13. It might also be worth considering the small room rule, if the requirements are met.
