Interesting mention on apartment building sprinkler protection. I think Miami, FL proposed such a solution to retrofit existing high-rise apartment buildings. I was involved in a high-rise (by NFPA 101 definition) apartment building design for new construction just this year. The plan was
to buy a fire pump and sprinkler the car park and the corridors of the tower. After unsuccessfully convincing them to either: completely sprinkler the tower, or use the hybridized strategy [for lack of a better term] involving one sprinkler in the apartment over the access door, I recused myself. scot deal excelsior fire BTW, several editions ago of the Life Safety Code, there was a scheme for protecting apartment buildings by corridor sprinklers with a single sprinkler on the inside of each entry door to an apartment. The idea was to prevent a fire inside an apartment from spreading into the corridor and preventing egress from other apartments. That is still considered acceptable in existing apartment buildings with limitations on the travel distance to an exit stair or outside exit door. It is no longer permitted for the protection of new apartment buildings. _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
