Yeah, the flexheads with the adapter mounting plate for ducts works quite well.
Makes inspection of the sprinklers simple with no need to disassemble piping
and drain systems.

Another suggestion, we have used "Flexheads" located in a removable 4"
sq plate. Makes install, inspection and replacement easier.

Subject: Re: Dust Ducts

On the few (very few) school projects with dust collectors we have had to
design (not install mind you), we have provided details that sprinkler heads
would be installed in a "Tee" turned up with a cover plate to fasten the
sprinkler head and keep it positioned (include a union for removal).
Spacing of the heads were not to exceed 12' and only installed in ductwork over
8". An access door shall be provided at each sprinkler head location in the
main duct to access the head. Heads were intermediate temperature with
corrosion resistant coating. I believe we have also provided a dry type head
connected to the exterior dust collector hopper but my memory is not going that
far today with reliability. That also would be a call by the owner/AHJ since
it's located outside the building and the level of protection they want, in my
opinion.

Hope this helps

Richard

Seems strange to me.
