The issue:

IPC 2006, 606.5.5 A low-pressure cutoff shall be installed on all booster
pumps in a water pressure booster system to prevent creation of a vacuum or
negative pressure on the suction side of the pump when a positive pressure of
10 psi (68.94 kPa) or less occurs on the suction side of the pump.

NFPA 20, 2007 - 12.6.13 Sole Supply Pumps.
12.6.13.1 For sprinkler or standpipe systems where an automatically controlled
pumping unit constitutes the sole supply, the controller shall be arranged for
manual shutdown.

QUESTION:

We need to reconcile whether the IPC means that the fire pumps is to be
de-energized (automatically shutdown) if a low pressure event occurs or of a
Low Suction Throttling Valve is installed that the pump would continue to run
and the LSTV would limit discharge in the event of a low suction pressure
condition. If NFPA 20 is to be followed I read that automatic shutdown is not
permitted.

There will be Reduced Pressure Backflows installed on the suction side of the
fire pumps per the local water purveyor.

Is there a conflict here or is the LSTV the same as the "low-pressure cutoff"
in the IPC or does the IPC section even apply to fire pumps?
