Does anyone have any success stories for hangar foam systems actually saving airplanes from a fire? Does anyone have any statistics on frequency of fires-big-enough-to-damage- airplanes-while-in-hangars?
I have heard seveal (but not many) horror stories from false-activations. I am only trying to get a sense and a direction on the effectiveness of what (on the surface), seems like a well-intentioned effort to save airplanes with hangar suppression systems. I am wondering what the real statistics and stories are from working hangars. I know the statistics can be very skewed. Many owners shy away from bad publicity (i.e. one of our airplanes was lost to fire as it sat in the hangar). I realize hangar design is a lucrative pasttime for some fire protection companies. But, yes, I am questioning the cost-benefit of these suppression systems versus the more reliable sloped floors and somewhat less reliable drains that contain a hangar fire to the loss of only one airplane. I don't really want to discuss what is and is not going to happen (not much) to sprinklers hanging 60+ feet above the finished floor from the hangar ceiling trusses. scot deal excelsior fire engineering _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
