Forest- I don't have a checklist, but I would like to point out that we as an industry need to understand the quantum difference between a walkthrough with the inspector/acceptance testing and what is a completely different item, "Commissioning". >From NFPA 3 ROP Draft in NFPA's 2011 Annual Revision Cycle Report on Proposals:
3.3.3.1* Commissioning (Cx). A systematic process that provides documented confirmation that specific and interconnected fire and life safety systems function according to the intended design criteria set forth in the project documents and satisfy the owner's operational needs, including compliance requirements of any applicable laws, regulations, codes, and standards requiring fire and life safety systems We've been working on this since December 2007, have two years till we're thru -unless its handed back to us in 2012. There are over 40 of us on the TC and we're on our 3rd staff liason! The above is the tip of the iceberg and only addresses Commissioning, abbreviated Cx, from our point of view. There's a whole industry that addresses Total Building Commissioning (TBC) from the shell thru the lights and HVAC, telecom, and more. NIST asked NFPA to produce the Fire Protection/Life Safety Component of this TBC and the result is (will be?) NFPA 3, Recommended Practice on Commissioning and Integrated Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems. I've presented seminars at AFSA and NFSA conventions twice on the topic, and rather than be more complete in my response, I'll stop now. Go to www.nfpa.org, codes and standards, NFPA 3, the draft version is linked there. There's 92 pages of proposals, our thoughts and actions, and the current draft version of the Recommended Practice. Actually, I do have a form or checklist, see Annex C. If you're in a hurry, don't bother looking, it isn't what you're looking for. It's been there a long time so we can only assume that two different groups pulled the information together and that it was not coordinated since it was not considered a significant issue (sounds better than wasn't noticed and then after its published no one was squawking so no need to change it). The difference for PG is not very great but glycerin is a different story.
