It all depends on your adopted regulations, codes and standards. In any case the fire marshal should issue a notice of violation citing the violation; the corroded piping, with the requisite code section and what's required to abate the violation; remove. Additionally many jurisdictions also require a permit to remove equipment. Without that the property owner is obligated to merely maintain what was originally installed under its original approval.
As others have mentioned make sure you have a lawful order in hand before modifying any fire protection system and then store it safely in a safe deposit box. Lastly consider why it was suppressed in the first place, a code requirement ?, a trade off ?, a variation ? Even if its voluntary fire protection is being reduced.
