Sounds like a spec either written by a ME or copied from some other job,
without understanding what they have asked for.

If I was in the mechanical trades, HVAC or Plumb. I would believe the writer
to be asking for sch 40 for both. Since we are not part of that trade, I
would say use our standard material.

Remember it is the responsibility of the writer to make perfectly clear what
they want, the reader (you) can apply any reasonable logic or interpretation
you want if the writer is vague. Our standard is anything that meets NFPA
13. Our standard weight pipe are those listed for fire protection. If it's
approved for fire protection it is our standard.

Sloppy spec writing is the driving force between engineers and "Layout
Tech." in the Us vs. them verbal wars.

Subject: Std. Weight Pipe

When reading a spec and it list 1-1/2" and smaller to be Standard Weight
Pipe, 2" and above to be standard weight pipe, how do most of you interpret
"standard weight" pipe? 1-1/2" and smaller = sch.40 & 2" and above =
sch.10? What's the industry standard when it comes to standard weight?
