not "every" one of us is a statistician. but many, including myself, are: each time we fudge our taxes, or inflate our resume, or lie to our partner, or manipulate our children, falsely promise to our bosses, overhype our marketing, make presentations using uncredited material, practice beyond our area of expertise, hide information from stakeholders, don't pay our subs, use humour or shock-and-awe to divert attention from our ulterior objectives, etc. ...each time we move to manipulate with unethical (but commonly accepted) means we are calculating that the risk of someone calling us to the mat and drowning us in our own pool of guano piled 6 inches deep is... assumable.
