Would the strainer be a substitute for return bends on pendents?

Subject: Centrifugal Horizontal Split Case Fire Pump - Intake Screens or In
Line Strainer

Forumites,

I have used intake screens as prescribed by NFPA 20 in the past when drawing
water for centrifugal fire pumps from a reservoir.

Recently I have been asked to put in line strainers in the pump suction.

Are they required when you have intake screens?

The reservoir is being feed by a well. The reservoir is also lined with a
membrane.

My take is if any debris gets by the intake screens, it would be too small
to damage the pump. A y strainer after the pump would filter any debris that
might be detrimental to sprinkler performance.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ed Cyr
