Actually they did pull it out of the sky! Not the tank size itself, but the
.15 and other densities (A single test extrapolated to create all three
hazard density curves.) you use to get to that volume.
We were discussing the difference in how long your water supply will last,
based upon which method you use to size the tank. I say that is not as
important a consideration as the design density or appropriate
classification.
How many fires do you see extinguished between 45min or 1 hour after they
start. By that time either the fire was controlled by the fire sprinklers,
so there was no overflow, and the FDP arrived to do the clean up, or if
after 45 min. your system is flowing full design or more, it's failed and
you've lost the building.

As for your statement below, your state laws may be different, but in
COLORADO you have to defend even frivolous clams, with no recourse for
damages. Our insurance rates for FS contractors are so high because the
carrier will pay to be left off the suit. Of course the contractor still
owes the deductable.

The same way a lawyer can say your guilty of a crime you know you didn't
commit. (You could change the word WRONG for "What a blood sucking leach
thinks they can get you for" but hey that's just me.)

Paranoia?????? Pay the deductibles I've paid to be accepted as "Innocent of
the cause of this claim" and you'd be paranoid too.
Maybe I'll write a law that the Arch and engineers must be included in all
construction claims. You know let the lawyers see those deep pockets!

THE END!

How do you rationalize a statement like "...it doesn't matter what size tank
you use used, if this thing has a fire you'll be WRONG no matter what, and
there will be plenty of lawyers to say so." If you followed the
prescriptive Codes and Standards and designed the system accordingly how
could a lawyer say you did it wrong?

Sometimes I find the lawyer paranoia a bit overwhelming on this board.
