Typically when hanging from a 4x2 truss member, you need to contact the truss
mfgr and find out where along the truss you can attach your hanger. Often it
is near or at panel points. You can't always just attach at any point along
the horizontal member.

Subject: Pipe hangers for open wood truss

NFPA 13 07ed (9.1.5.6.1) requires that screws in the side of timber be
installed not less that 2.5" (3" for mains) from the bottom edge. If
the top chord of the truss is a 2x4 on it's side then it is only 1.75"
thick.
How has the forum complied with this restriction in the past? The AHJ I
am dealing with will not accept Sammy side winders for wood since they
only show a TJI, not a truss, when installing in this fashion.
One option I was thinking of was to lag bolt a piece of unistrut through
2X4 blocking up into the top chord of the wood truss. This way I would
get my required thickness to use 1/2"x3" lag bolts for 4in mains.
Thanks,
Dewayne
