My NFPA 13 2010 handbook is a little vague on the subject, when an automatic
air maintenance device is installed in the system, does that supercede the
requirements of 7.2.6.4 to install a relief valve? The explanitory text seems
to suggest that the items under the heading 7.2.6.3 Air supply connections are
requirements for a non automatic air supply, and that the requirements starting
at 7.2.6.5 are for automatic air supply. My reading doesn't show me any
exceptions or redirects in the enforceable language to suggest you really can
omit the pressure relief, but the explanitory text seems to indicate you can,
and eliminating it does seem more or less reasonable, though most of our valves
come pre trimmed with a pressure relief, we're running into issues
re-configuring for nitrogen generation systems where we have to remove some of
the trim and my guys removed the relief valves as well, I just want to see if
we need to reinstall them or not.
