We have just gone through this with jobs in Frisco and Lubbock, Texas, as well as Colorado Springs. Tyco Thermal Controls has XL-Trace which is listed (under certain guidelines) for fire protection piping.

The approvals through CSA include both steel and CPVC, and can be used on branchlines with sprinklers. Not so clear under the UL guidelines. Right now, the City of Frisco is reviewing the data to determine the proper applications, per both listings.

As far as supervision goes, we have the alarm company connect to the panel to give a trouble signal in the event of malfunction, i.e. loss of power, etc.

Subject: Heat Trace Supervision

8.16.4.1.4 "Where listed heat tracing systems are used, they shall be
supervised."

What are the minimum requirements for supervision?(such as; ground fault,
loss of power, .)

We have a 20' section of 4" bulk main that crosses an unheated corridor

What are the options out there for listed heat trace manufacturers for
freeze protection of bulk mains?

Thanks,
