NFPA #13 says that the maximum deflector distance for EC heads (non-comb,
unobstructed const) is 12". All of the EC Pensents I am looking at only
have Flat Esc. or Semi-rec plates listed.

Can you use 401 style plates with these heads even thought they are not
specifically listed? My thoughts are that you can because if you used bare
pipe you place the head 12" below the ceiling, so if that is true and you
choose to cover the pipe with Deep Plates, it should not be a problem.
