That's an old trick to be used only in hard lids with no/limited access.
Just kidding. I had some Russian drywallers take down most of an arched
ceiling over a swimming pool in a "fitness center". It appeared that they
slammed the board against the protector caps to make an indent for
centering their hole cutouts. Unless it was stiff-rodded, the nearest ring
jumped on top of the button causing many of the heads to be too high. These
were concealed heads too. Honestly, I can spot a tricked out escutcheon
from not quite a mile away.
