Multi-discipline coordination for more complex projects in 3D. Since a lot of
our projects are large process or large manufacturing projects, coordination
during design is critical to minimize installation conflicts. For years the
typical A/E firm fire protection design has been a big X on the floor plan and
a note stating to install sprinklers per NFPA 13 and coordinate with all other
trades. Process piping typically never produces any plans of their systems so
if you are a contractor trying to do a coordinated layout in a building where
there is a lot of process pipe, you're shooting blindfolded in the dark when it
comes to "coordinating with other trades". The REVIT platform is one that has
been used by Architects and Structural for their work and was sorely lacking in
capability for mechanical discipline work. But the last update improved that
capability and really took a step forward for fire protection.
