Hello fellow forumites:

I don't know how common this type of configuration is however I am wondering if
anybody else has run into this problem.

Last year as part of a retrofit we installed a fire water curtain system as a
barrier between the building and some large transformers. The curtains are fed
from 6" deluge valves and created a proper curtain during commissioning. Below
the curtain is a large fan intake run only during warmer temperatures. The
intake has louvers to deflect rain however they are not designed for the
quantity of water seen with the curtain. Earlier this month the deluge curtain
operated due to a fault in the detection. The water was drawn into the fan unit
and in turn overtaxed the fan drains causing other problems. I was wondering if
any one else out there has experienced an event like this?

The resolution here will be to confirm the integrity of the fan drains and
have the operators shut the fans down while testing the deluge or unintentional
operation of the deluge curtain.

Thanks
