Subject: Massive warehouse fire in NJ hampered by roof top solar panels

Check out the first link for a narrative report on the fire. Solar panels
apparently hindered aerial fire suppression efforts and this
became a massive fire. But please also check out the second link
(flickr.com) for a series of photos that shows VERY clearly why placement of
exterior fire suppression system components can be so
critical. We often wrestle with architects about where to put the
backflow/FDC/PIV such as they may occur and I am always trying to push this
stuff outside the limits of the height of the walls in case of collapse. In
this fire several precast concrete panels fell - the pix
tell a compelling story.
