Based on the 2013 edition of 13, does a 1" pipe on a cross main feeding a
single sprinkler require a restraint (ie. wire restraint)? Per 9.3.6.7, Drops
and armovers shall not require restraint. Per the letter of the law, this pipe
would be defined as a branchline...right? And therefore would require a
restraint...right? Ok, what about when the 1" pipe is only 10" long? At this
length, a hanger is not required, but what about the restraint?

If the 1" pipe was 8' long, I can see the need for a restraint, but for a
short piece of pipe, does a restraint provide added benefit? For the purpose of
restraints, is there a cutoff when the horizontal run should be reclassified as
a branchline in lieu of an armover? At 2'? 6'? 10'?

Help.
