This isn't a specific answer but, in general, you can definitely
restrain with either mechanical restraints or thrust blocks or both. As
for compatibility of restraint products with different types of pipe and
fittings, consult the manufacturer for tech support if necessary. As
for compatibility of different pipe types with different types of MJ and
push-on fittings, I've seen transition rubbers, adaptive fittings, all
manner of interconnection over the years. So long as the uni-flanges
and glands and restraints, etc., etc. are all carefully applied to the
situation, i.e. pipe and fitting types, and so long as all that hardware
is installed per the manufacturers' guidelines, nothing in your
narrative seems undo-able or a bad practice, at least not after a quick
read.

But keep in mind that you're talking about a lot of ferrous goodies in
these connections, which is one thing that thrust blocking displaces.
I'd want to see a proactive and aggressive effort to mitigate corrosion,
i.e. coating the hardware, encasing in seamless PE sleeves, etc.

Subject: Underground Restraint

I'm on a project where the underground isn't clear, I mean I'm used to
restrained megalugs and fittings where thrust blocks are not used. Now
this project is using just bell and spigot C900 (DR18) with push on
fittings that will have thrust blocks. With lined DI52 with flanges to
connect to C900 pipe with PVC uni-flanges. I can't seem to find anything
conclusive in NFPA 24.

1) Can DR-18 pipe just be installed without the use bell joint
restraint because of using thrust blocks?

2) Can you connect lined DI52 fabricated with a flange directly to
C900
via a PVC uni-flange?

3) They are also planning on connecting to the PIV NRS valve with
the
uni-flange.

4) It appears you can use C900 restrainers with push on fittings
but
only have serrated so I'm assuming we could use those as bell
restrainers.

Another thing and I can't find a code to back it is the use of DR14 pipe
for the FDC line. The ordered all DR18, long time before I got here, and
the plans/specifications doesn't mention it. Is it code or just local
regulations that I'm confusing it with?

Thanks!
