If someone out there still has 30-year old PFOS, though it put out fires, I
am not loving that foam at all.

While Solberg promises a green future with its Class B foam, and there is
EVERY reason to embrace AFFF for its fire suppression capability (when
applied in ways *demonstrated to put out fires in the field*), there are
some water-quality and environmental reasons to not be loving AFFF. A
good FPE analyses would address this with more than cursory lip service.
If I was a lawyer responsible for protecting a client's environmental
interests, I would expect the FEED design fire professional to make their
case (a not too high obstacle to hurdle for large fire hazards) for
releasing AFFF into the environment. Justifying use of AFFF should be part
of the stewardship and custodial oversight included in the designer's due
diligence. EPC engineers should not simply accept current and past AFFF
specifications, but question the judgment used in AFFF approval.
