We’ve been getting some bounces of messages sent to the SprinklerForum due to
the formatting of text in the message. It’s be awhile since I last explained
this, so for any newcomers here is some important information you need to know.

The SprinklerForum DOES NOT support attachments or rich text messages. It
supports only plain old generic text messages. If you like to have a customized
background, special fonts, or bold/italics in your messages, you are out of
luck. The SprinklerForum list server won’t accept your message and propagate it
to the list.

Why, you ask?

We don’t accept message attachments because attachments are a GREAT way to get
a virus to a large number of people at one time (over 700 subscribers at last
count). The question-and-answer nature of the SprinklerForum doesn’t really
need attachments anyway, so we prefer to play it safe and restrict them.
Because rich text info such as backgrounds, fonts, etc. are sent along with the
message as a MIME attachment to be decoded by the recipient, the attachments
are not accepted by the forum software. Therefore, the message bounces.

If you really need to send attachments or rich text, send your message to the
individual at their personal email address - not the SprinklerForum.
