Is there anything prohibiting the use of mechanical tees (strap-on tees,
hookers are some of the other names used) instead of welded outlets on branch
lines for new construction?

I've got an installation where the contractor used mechanical tees for the
upright sprinklers instead of welded outlets.

I thought I had seen in NFPA 13 where these were not permitted for new
construction but only for modifications to existing systems.

I've hunted NFPA 13 but can't seem to find any such limitation.
