I would say yes in my opinion as long as the support design is a by a PE.

My recent experience was 4" galv sch 40 deluge pipe for alcohol storage tank in
a tank farm.
The valve house was about 100' and the supply was run high so people could walk
away and not trip.

Pipe stands were 4" galv pipe vertical with a 2' wide piece 2x2x1/4 angle iron
welded on top. All of which sat on top of a 1' concrete footer with galvanized
rod for a flange on the pipe.
We could hang on one side and the conduit for the alarms ran on the other side.

Support engineering had as many drawings as the deluge system and cost a
fortune.

Good luck with your situation let us know how it turns out.

Would adding steel channel (sized properly) between the two vertical
supports and under the pipe, if spaced over 15' apart, count as "pipe
support" and meet the intention of table 9.2.2.1(a)?
Approved by PE as well of course
Just a thought

Space them two per pipe length and not over 15 between.
PE decides material and size of hanger components.
Make sure he adds water weight and 250 . They don't usually remember or know
to do that.

Mark,

That is the section 9.1.1.2, but they have to follow the 5 list items.
Following table 9.2.2.1(a) happens to be one of the items, but the pipe I'm
dealing with is not listed on that table so...
