Ames/Watts will NOT go on record to allow it without a thrust block @ the turn
up elbow. Practicality?? to rod back, but no document to allow. Just went
through the same scenario.

Great, thanks! This was actually the first time we had it come up on the 1
piece riser. I’m assuming the other underground contractors simply poured a
thrust block because it was either habit or easier than educating us…

Subject: In Building Riser -- Restraints

Quick question came up recently on the 1 piece in building risers. Typically we
have seen contractors provide thrust blocks at the bend. We’ve had one
installed recently without one and the foundation was poured before we were
able to view it. The contractor is advising us that a thrust block is not
needed. The specification sheet provided advises:

If the piping installation is essentially complete, the piping
restraints may adequately take the thrust loads generated by
having a blind end on the pipe system. In these cases, no
special actions to restrain thrust or side loads are required,
and the fitting installed in the system may be adequate for
hydrostatic testing.

Is the restraint at the pipe connection on the supply side all that is needed?
