A wise man once said, "a question well asked is a problem half solved", so I'll do my best. I have a bedroom in a 13R occupancy which measures 14'x16'. There is a 24"wide x 18" deep soffit around the perimeter of the room. I have a residential horizontal sidewall head in the soffit 12" below the ceiling along the 14' wall and a pendent head in the soffit just below. Here is the question: The distance from the sidewall head to the soffit at the far end of the room is 12'. Since I am 6" above the bottom of the soffit, the minimum distance required by 8.10.7.1.3 (2010) is 13'. Do I need another head under the far end soffit? It seems ridiculous, but what do you think? Thanks much.
