Basically, you do the following: 1 – Design area is # of sprinklers x max area of coverage per sprinkler. So if you have 100 sq ft max, then 10 sprinklers is 1000 sq ft.2 – Design area is 1.2 x DA^0.5 – unless you have one of the other modifiers that come into play for FM. Sometimes you end up with 1.4. You have to review Data sheet 3-00. 3 – just layout the design area now as you with normally with those parameters. This is also how you do CMSA where it just gives pressure and # of sprinklers. Per recommendation using Table 10 in FM 8-9, under 30' storage height and K22.4 sprinklers, 10@40 psi. How do you distribute those on the lines? With regular ESFR per NFPA 13 you do 3 line @ 4 heads per line, real simple. But how do you split it up for 10 heads? I looked through 8-9 and 2007 NFPA 13 and I'm not seeing any guidance. Richard L.
