I will restate my comment. Since there is no dedicated FP function for a water meter, I don’t see why any of the NRTLs would establish a test standard for listing them. Do you know if in fact there is such a listing for any meters, regardless of size? I could see it possibly for a large diameter turbine meter in case a dedicated private fire service requires measurement. Another consideration is terminology – there are backflow assemblies that carry UL and FM seals but to my knowledge they’re not “listed” backflow assemblies, they’re “classified”. Listing of backflows (as recognized by water agencies nationwide) is the responsibility of the Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at University of Southern California (FCCCHR). Their approval is the ONLY one that is accepted by every water purveyor we’ve ever dealt with. The UL classification of backflows for FP applications entails comparing the actual head loss to the published curves (must match) and test case burst strength (must be 4x working pressure). But “listing” would entail testing and certifying an appliance for its performance as a backflow prevention device, which is decidedly NOT undertaken by UL or FM.
So to the issue of a “listed” meter, I question whether it would be actually listed or simply classified for domestic and/or fire applications. Steve L.
