Here is how I see the argument
If you pipe the sprinkler with a smaller diameter line then that sprinkler
has to be part of your hydraulic calculation (arguably you could just
switch to the sprinkler below the obstruction and remove the sprinkler
above the obstruction, as you are not required to calculate both but you
have to calculate the most demanding)
If you pipe the sprinkler with the same diameter line then there is no
additional calculations required
Piping under obstructions after design is already done it's just simpler to
pipe the additional sprinkler with the same pipe diameter but if you know
of the obstructions beforehand and include them in the initial calculations
then you could pipe them with whatever works in the calculations.
