I wrote the #20 committee years ago on pump rooms. There should be a shotgun to hold the building during testing, especially transfer switches, and a main drain off that as the best way of conducting automatic starts of the fire and jockey pumps. #13 covers us I believe in where we terminate drains, be they main drains, drain risers or reliefs; as the location must accommodate anticipated flow.

All systems need a main drain piped to an acceptable place of discharge that can handle full flow with the fire pump system (if provided) operating. There should also be a method to drain the fire pump system piping. John John August Denhardt, P.E.
