Hey Zach,
Dry Pendents on return bends installed on dry systems have been a staple for a
long time, I think John was noting the allowance of standard pipe return bends
to a standard pendent (not dry head) installed and protecting a heated area.

I’ve been curious about the length of time for corrosion or the accelerated
corrosion with trapped water in return bends supplying heated areas when
installed on dry systems. Anyone else have any anecdotal info or observations
on this? I haven’t seen it, but it doesn’t mean it’s not happening…

Related to this, I have a dry system I’m reviewing that features return beds
feeding a dry pendant head. My argument is that the environment is not
maintained at 40F or above as mentioned in the 2016 edition section 7.2.2. I
see water filling the return bend during a three year full trip. His argument
is that he is using a listed dry sprinkler. Who is right?

While fully allowed, having piping containing water in a dry pipe system most
likely will lead to accelerated corrosion of the dry pipe piping system.

I have a dry system that is feeding upright sprinklers on sprigs in a heated
light hazard space. The owner wants to add ACT. I’m wondering if I can use flex
drops into the ACT. Feels weird, but I cannot find any reason why I shouldn’t.
