Are you nuts?  Do you have any idea how much work a quality fork
would take?  Absolutely not.

My intent is to give folks a place to store their local
customizations that they have written to make their life easier.
If it becomes active enough, I expect some code (or at least the
ideas) will make it upstream.

I've also had enough laptop drives fail that I want my work to be
archived on a public server.  I've also tried posting attachments
here when people requested code, and sourceforge rejects them.

I discussed my intentions with Dieter off-list before posting
here a month or so ago.  His position, which I completely
understand and support, is that unless I am willing to take
responsibility for auditing and testing every contribution, he
will not link to it from the official site.  I cannot do that
right now so it will be independent.

I'm going to use git as the repository, so you have to be pretty
geeky to even be able to take advantage of it. This will provide
some level of quality control (and maybe a quiet repository!).
I'm also going to publish some strongly recommended guidelines,
but beyond that it will be a open bazaar.
