I suspect that all you have to do is re-register the server with 
Enterprise Manager.  If you right-click the server in EM, the registration 
probably just says "local" or "localhost".  Change that to the actual 
server name instead and try again.  You don't have to uninstall and 
reinstall the software, just change how you connect to the server.

This is a hard problem to describe since I have never come across it 
before.

I use database replication to publish data from one database to another. 
So,
since I am moving to a new sql server, I have to set up the database for
publishing to its subscribers. When I open Enterprise manager and choose
"Tools, Replication, Create and Manage Publications" I get the error I
mentioned before.

In Enterprise Manager under SQL Server Group it lists the SQL server as
"(Loacl) (Windows NT)". I am assuming, based on the error message, that 
the
server cant be named that and that I need to change the name. So how do I 
do
this with as little work as possible?
