Ian,

Well the thing is I am asking why would, you want to do that in the first
place. I guess I should have been asking from an application point of view,
why would I write a SP that allows for an array of data to be saved, I guess
not knowing why you would have an array of data in the first place is where
I am coming from.

Subject: RE: SQL Server SP Question

My question is that I came across this website, and although I know what the
code is doing what I really don't understand is why anyone would do this at
all.

http://www.mindsdoor.net/SQLTsql/InsertTextData.html

Well, my wild guess is that they are inserting text into varchar fields
which have a max size of 8000 characters. To store text blocks larger then
8000, they are using multiple records.  This is an old school text trick;
our database does similar things in some places.

Why they would choose this technique over a CLOB field is a matter of some
speculation.
