But it wasn't clear that Ray's response was actually to me, because
there was no quoting/addressing of the message.

Hence why I pointed out that specific quoting of messages is a Good
Thing on mailing lists - because it helps remove this sort of
ambiguity.


If I've quoted a piece of text, I'm replying to the person that wrote
the text, regardless of whether a newer message might have arrived in
the meantime or whatever.
