"Many readers" should work fine.
An access violation sounds like a bad pointer or a compile problem.
Check for the standard stuff:
* more than one DLL/loadable lib and you're not loading the one you
thought you were
* correct compile settings for sqlite
* bugs ( "it compiles, therefore it's perfect!" )
* compiler not "service packed"
