You say it did not call the function create function, and yet it 
crashed on that line within an otherwise harmless if statement. 
I'm wondering if it's a build problem or a compiler problem.

You may be the only freebsd ports expert on this mailing list.
You should report the problem to the ports maintainer for sqlite.

I have no idea what compile flags they've set or how they built it.
For one, I don't think fts2 is built by default for sqlite3.

Try building 3.5.1 directly from the sources on the sqlite.org website
just to see what's going on.
