If you're only storing the list for local use on one machine, adding the media ID is almost certainly overkill, but i found it useful for my lots-of-external-drives collection, and it works regardless of the type of media. e.g. i also had self-burned DVDs in the collection. Instead of writing down what was on each DVD, i simply wrote its label/ID on the front of it.
