If I try to delete a file while it's open I expect to get an error message 
"Can't delete file because it's open.".  That's what the mainframe OSen I used 
first did.  When I first encountered Unix I found it very weird.  But that 
design does have its advantages.  Including the way it so neatly solves the 
problem this thread is about.
